The Lost Luggage Song
2016-12-01
by Doodleslice

A hearty traveler once was I
Until that day that made me sigh
In the airport at baggage claim
Up to me, a tall man came

In his eyes I could read grim news
And then these words the man did choose:

Oh pardon me sir, I’m sad to say
I have bad news for you today
While we were flying, high in the sky
We dropped your luggage, we don’t know why

So it is with great regret
I give you all that we have left
There is this belt, and one left shoe
Is there anything else that I may do?

Oh tell me where I can find my pants?
You could try the south of France.

What’s become of my right shoe?
We believe it is in Peru.

And that shirt with stripes of tan?
It floats near the Isle of Man.

Did you locate my new blue suit?
It’s on a street in Old Beirut.

And of my cufflinks? They were a set.
One fell in Berlin, and one in Tibet.

One last question I fear to ask
For this has become a tiresome task
Not to mention it’s not polite
To discuss things we keep from sight.

But I see an answer in your dour face
They must be lost without a trace

Oh you villain of the skies
Your news brings tears to my eyes
How can I go from here to there
When you’ve lost my underwear?

A hearty traveler once was I
Until that day that made me cry
In the airport at baggage claim
When my heart was filled with shame.

This is my tale. It was not long.
My advice to you, is carry on.
