I’m stubborn as a mule
It’s not mere reputation
Dear friend I am a fool
To your exasperation .
I won’t go to the stables
Though rain and snow are sleeting
I’ll stay up braying fables
When everyone is sleeping
.
Asking me to stay
I’ll surely want to leave
Beg me go away
I’ll dig in for the siege
.
Tie me to your cart
You will only make it worse
Forward you may start
But you’ll finish in reverse
.
I am the king of stubbornness
Lowly donkey acting royal
But nowhere in the wilderness
Could you find a friend more loyal
.
Put your burdens on my back
I never tire or stumble
And my hearing doesn’t lack
When sadness makes you mumble
.
Just walk with me a while
When you feel your eyebrows furrow
And if we find your smile
I will be one happy burro.
