Poetry meme round 5

By now I’m sure you get the idea: if you click like I’ll assign you a poet.

Nandita selected e e cummings for my 5th assignment – I thought this poem was a lovely little jewel:

The Moon Is Hiding In

the moon is hiding in
her hair.
The
lily
of heaven
full of all dreams,
draws down.

cover her briefness in singing
close her with the intricate faint birds
by daisies and twilights
Deepen her,

Recite
upon her
flesh
the rain’s

pearls singly-whispering.

~ e e cummings

Poetry meme round 4 – yes, I’m a glutton for it.

The notion is to flood Facebook with poetry. How it works: Someone assigns you a poet, you post one of their poems, and if people like your post, you assign poets to them. (And if you click like on the response of someone to whom you assigned a poet, they should keep the ball rolling and assign another poet back at you). So to be clear – if you click like I’ll assign you a poet.

This time Marlyn gave me Lewis Carroll, which made the selection easy – I’m going straight for Jabberwocky:

“Jabberwocky”

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

~ Lewis Carroll

What time is it? Apparently cat-gone-crazy o’clock. For about 3 minutes a day our 17year old Lexy acts like Popeye at a spinach convention.

A few moments ago I opened my mailbox and reached in to grab the stack of mail. As I pulled the mail out a postcard tumbled out and vanished down a crack between the baseboard and wall that couldn’t be more than an 1/8th of an inch thick. I couldn’t replicate that shot if I tried a 1000 times. Hopefully it wasn’t important.
