Lilac Moon
2016-09-17
A lilac moon
Rivals our own
Orbiting a planet named Samson
Where tigers lick their wounds
In peaceful defeat
A lamb sleeps not a wink
In the breathing grove of orange
Finding no lullaby in the chuff and purr
As beasts of prey slumber heavily
In humid convalescence
Slowly scabbing over their deepest wounds
The broken teeth mend
If not straight, at least workable
And the first platoon returns
To the brick and fellowship of war
A forgotten lamb
Sleeps at last in a lilac glow
For a week or an hour
Battles end and begin
‘Til the defeated come again, again
Oh moon of my Earth!
How broken your heart?
So cold are your tigers in isolation
No battles, but their own
No allies, but sheep uncounted.
