Another book whose DNA has woven itself into my work is “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach. This one I encountered in 3rd grade when the teacher’s assistant read it to the class. Then I had a paperback copy that I read and reread so many times that the pages fell apart. If you’ve never read it, I don’t think I could do it justice here, but it is story of learning to fly spiritually through learning to fly physically, a story of love and transcendence, a story of the power of teaching, and of freedom. I highly recommend it. If I’ve shared a fraction of the sense of wonder JLS gave me in the pages of Color Me With Hugs, then I’ll feel I’ve truly accomplished something. https://ift.tt/2q8E7T7 #richardbach #jonathanlivingstonseagull #lineage #myfirstbook #colormewithhugs #love #flying #art #poems #poetry #coloring #coloringbook #artist #drawing #drawings @scribnerbooks

Here we have my new book alongside its spiritual ancestor. The book on the left, “Oh What Nonsense!” is an anthology of wonderfully silly and sometimes subversive poems by a bunch of different poets and illustrated by the amazing Tomi Ungerer. It’s the book that first introduced me to Shel Silverstein’s work with one of my still all time favorite poems, “Beware My Child”. I think it was first grade when I got this from the bookmobile at Bradford Elementary and it set a deep and lasting impression that definitely helped shape my own creative approach. 😊👍❤️🐰 https://ift.tt/2q8E7T7 #lineage #coloringbook #coloring #myfirstbook #art #artist #illustration #tomiungerer #shelsilverstein #love #drawing #poems #poet #poetry #nonsense #doggerel @vikingbooks @shelsilversteinpoems @tomiungerer
