Another Diva Toolbox article and a few questions

I had a nice chat with Janet Powers yesterday – Janet is the Diva extraordinaire behind Diva Toolbox™, a site which has been gracious enough to post a few of my scribblings – the latest being The Title That Used To Be Your Brand. Janet shared with me some of the stats on my past articles and asked if I might be interested in joining their growing family of podcasters under the umbrella of Diva Toolbox Radio (a BlogTalkRadio partnership).

I love the Diva Toolbox™ motto: “Within you lies the ability to do anything. Find it.” I think it is a great thought for everyone. The mission of Diva Toolbox™ is to “empower, educate, and entertain women”, but that is a message for men and women alike. I’m delighted that according to Janet my posts have been well received in the almost entirely female Diva community so I’m strongly considering taking her up on the podcast concept, but I feel that what I do here isn’t exclusively for one gender, nor would my content necessarily change for the audience.

Since you know I’m an advocate for listening to your community and asking for feedback on your brand my questions to my readers of this blog are: Would you like to not just read, but listen to some of my ideas too? And if so, do you think the Diva Toolbox would be a good vehicle for that conversation? Please tweet me @davidscohen or post a comment with your thoughts. Thanks!

Schnicks and Stones – High Velocity Interview

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THhjNMtA4gg]

Well I had some good fun yesterday visiting the High Velocity Radio show, which is part of the RadioX network.  Hosts Stone Payton and Todd Schnick really do a great job of making their guests feel welcome and giving them a chance to shine.  I had the good fortune to be on the bill with Grant Carter, CEO of Team Doctors, and Marna Friedman, owner of Mpressive Solutions and author of The Small Business that Could for Women.  We each had about 15 minutes at the mic and all got hit with Stone’s favorite zinger “Tell us about your biggest mistake.”  The whole show is almost an hour, but if you’re in a hurry there is a brief excerpt, which clocks in at 3 min. 44 sec., where I talk about how branding happens whether you intend to or not. I hope you can check it out 🙂

Art Party Tonight

It’s been too long since I mentioned anything art related in this blog. To remedy that I’m giving a little publicity to my friend Richard (a.k.a. Visibleman) and the Art Party he is showing some paintings at tonight. Here’s the details:

Saturday 21st, 7pm at the Sycamore Place Gallery
120 Sycamore Place, Decatur 30030

Paintings by Lisa Price, Al Green, Devon Price-Ormsby and VISIBLEMAN

Live music by Jules and the Gents, Moon Goddess Cotillion and Eryn Price-Ormsby

Dance by Amy Zeger-Burton, Sylvia Cross, Julie Stein, Sarah Salamander and Shanti.

(Right across from Carpe Diem and the Ice House lofts, and just off of Commerce Drive behind Fellini’s pizza).

Hope to see you there.

When worlds collide – tagging in meat space

David Cohen's real world tags - photo by Jeff Pulver

Only Jeff Pulver would fly around the world hosting “Social Media Breakfasts” and thank goodness!   This was a great event, lots of fun.   I don’t know if the concept is Jeff’s originally, but he has been going  from city to city on a mission to bring social computing techniques to real-world networking.   Using the web 2.0 metaphor of tagging and Facebook “Walls” you have a great icebreaker for starting conversations  and learning more about the person you just shook hands with.  The photo above is my personal tag cloud from about halfway through the event.

You need to be on Facebook to rsvp, but if Jeff brings one of these events to your town, definitely check it out.   If not, host your own and send me an invite!

A practical dose of efficiency

Yes, I admit it.  Sometimes I will indulge in a little high-brow, high-level or high-concept marketing-speak.  I can’t help it, it is in my nature (blame the right brain).   That’s why I am glad that I have friends like Dave Eissman to keep me grounded, and I hope you don’t mind if I give him and his new blog a plug:

Dave has a knack for breaking down marketing tactics into straight forward, approachable steps that get results.  I have had the good fortune to collaborate with Dave on behalf of the International Business Academies, Limited, for whom we are both advisers, and I have always admired his straightforward, make-it-practical approach as well as his warm and generous nature.  Dave recently started a new blog – One on Many Marketing, and his current post, What is One on Many Marketing? is a wake-up call to B-to-B businesses to make use of the efficient tools of the Internet to bring scale to their lead generation and relationship building processes.  Dave is offering a free tele-seminar on the subject (details here) – I plan to attend and I hope I’ll see you online then too.

Well, I’m delighted to report that I’ve been invited to sit in as a guest on Brian Blomgren’s radio show on Radio Sandy Springs 1620 AM , airing live at 10am on Monday, November 19th. Brian hosts the Business Hour every Monday when he is not busy helping Atlanta area businesses as the owner and operator of the Sandy Springs office of Action International. Brian and I will be discussing my company, Equation Arts, and some of the factors that can help build a community around your brand. I hope you can join us.
