2012-07-19  #1500

On April 15th of 2011 I completed a self-assigned journey of 1000 doodles.  It was exciting, it was exhausting, it was a squeaker of  a race to hit the goal date. And the funny thing was I didn’t stop there. Yes I slowed down the pace a little after completing the goal – in part because it was kind of frantic, and in part because the drawings often take longer now – many of the early drawings were minimally colored so they were a lot faster to produce.  Art evolves though – as do artists.

Anyway, I just wanted to celebrate this new milestone, even if it was a slower one to reach. I’ve been making art of one form or another for over 25 years now, but no series of work, no phase of exploration has given me more joy or fulfillment than this current path of whimsical, spontaneous, celebrations of life, love, simplicitiy, dance and silliness (and the occasional space bunny). I guess it is because I think these things are some of the most important things in life.  The things that make humans special, and such good company at the coffee shop.

I want to pause here on my doodle journey just to say hi and a very big thanks to all of you who have been peeking in and following along as I let the markers flow.  Whether you are new to the doodles or have been there from the first posting, your support and encouragement have meant and continues to mean so much to me. Making 1500 bits of art, even small drawings, invovlves a lot of hours spent alone and wondering if something as absurd as a few strokes  of ink on a page can really communicate and bring something worthwhile to another person’s day.  Your smiles, hearts, comments, likes and shares tell me that they do and encourage me that you and people like you really do care about the so called little things.

I’ve said it before, optimism isn’t for wimps – sometimes it takes work to find the bright side in a complicated world, but isn’t it worth that effort?

So my dear bright and shiny beacons, great big bear hugs from me to all of you. And allow me this high-five to myself: 1500 and many more to come. 🙂
